Minimal Impact to VehicularTraffic
Starting Monday, Aug.17, at 4:30 a.m., and ending Friday, Oct. 23, the N.C.Department of Transportation will repair the fender system on the Surf City Swing Bridge on N.C. 210 that was damaged after being struck by a barge on July 19. The bridge will remain open to vehicular traffic but will be closed to boat traffic from 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. every day, except at 8:30 a.m. and Noon when the bridge will open for large vessels.
The fender system of a bridge protects the bridge structure from impacts and other environmental hazards. Since most of the work will be done close to the water and away from travel lanes, only minimum disruption to traffic is expected.
Motorists are still advised to still use caution, while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
