Topsail Beach News

The Town is monitoring the path of Hurricane Matthew. Recent reports suggest that the storm has shifted more to the north putting Topsail Beach under a Hurricane Warning.  Flooding is expected with the highest rainfall and wind potential on Saturday as conditions steadily deteriorate.  We are expecting 10” to 12” of rain from the storm which will result in significant flooding.  Chances are greater for hurricane force winds for our area as well.

We urge everyone to monitor this storm and complete all personal preparations as soon as possible.  Although the Town is still under a voluntary evacuation, we urge all residents to consider leaving the island.  We anticipate streets to be impassable by Saturday, so if you intend on staying please be prepared to stay for 2 to 3 days.

Pender County Emergency Management will be opening shelters this evening at 6p.m.  The shelter locations are Topsail Elementary in Hampstead and Burgaw Middle in Burgaw. Burgaw Middle is a pet friendly shelter.  For more information please call Town Hall or the Police Department.

We will update you as needed.  You can also stay up to date with the latest information by checking the Town’s website and Facebookpage.
