“Come Pillage in the Village” is the whimsical motto of the summer plunder days craft market being held this summer in downtown Topsail Beach. The craft market will take place every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. all through June, July and August. It is located at the start of the downtown district on the corner of S Anderson Blvd and Davis Ave.
“The Market is an effort to help the Town celebrate its 50th Anniversary and a venue to showcase local artists from the island” says market organizer, Dottie Netherton, a crafter herself for 29 years. “Topsail’s wonderful Autumn with Topsail festival in October draws crafters from all over the state, but we have found many local folk who are new to Topsail or have never participated in that event.”
Some of the crafts include weathervanes, baskets, pottery, jewelry, tide clocks, mosaics, glass ornament, scissor art, shell art, watercolors, and more.
“We’re capitalizing on the pirate theme”, says Netherton. “Market-goers will receive a free “Piece of eight” which can be redeemed at Topsail’s Missles and More Museum for a free pirate pencil. The museum has an extensive display of “Pirates of the Carolinas”. Netherton added, “We know that market-goers will want to browse in our local shops and sample our restaurants too.”
Significant rain will cancel the Thursday market.
