Useful Information

The Division of Coastal Management works to protect, conserve and manage North Carolina's coastal resources through an integrated program of planning, permitting, education and research. DCM carries out the state's Coastal Area Management Act, the Dredge and Fill Law and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 in the 20 coastal counties, using rules and policies of the N.C. Coastal Resources Commission, known as the CRC. The division serves as staff to the CRC.  Click HERE for a useful interactive map of the NC Coastal Region.

Over the past 40 years, the North Carolina Coastal Federation has worked alongside coastal communities to protect and restore the unique North Carolina coast. As a member supported non-profit the Coastal Federation’s goals are obtained through a variety of programs and partnerships with people from all walks of life. Through efforts for clean coastal waters, living shorelines, thriving oysters, effective coastal management, and marine debris removal, the Federation and North Carolina’s coastal communities continue to work together for a healthy coast!

The Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission is a collaborative effort for beach preservation activities by the five government entities that have authority for governing the island. These are the Board of Commissioners for Pender County and Onslow County and the governing boards for the Towns of North Topsail Beach, Topsail Beach, and Surf City.

The Town of Topsail Beach are also members of NC BIWAYS, advocating for coastal preservation, renourishment, sustainability and resiliency requires collaboration with local, state and federal agencies along with the support of the N.C.  General Assembly.  Educating elected officials and the public, through conferences and publications, on the economic value of our beaches and coastal communities is fundamental to promoting our goals.  Please check their website regularly for upcoming semi annual conferences.

ASBPA has adopted a three year strategic plan for 2022-2024.  During this time, ASBPA will continue to hold an annual National Coastal Conference and Summit, publish Shore & Beach as a peer-reviewed journal, develop educational content on timely coastal issues, and advocate for federal funding for coastal restoration, research and shore protection.  Additionally, ASBPA will develop resources to connect coastal managers and coastal researchers on the most critical challenges facing our coast, advocate to expedite coastal project delivery, and encourage regional resilience planning along the entire developed coastline of the United States.  To achieve all its external goals, ASBPA is committed to growing as an organization.  The strategic plan includes goals, objectives and strategies for Science and TechnologyGovernment Affairs, Education and Outreach, and internal resources.

Founded in 2013, TI Coastal is an engineering firm specializing in coastal engineering, professional land surveying, near-shore hydrographic surveying, and coastal geology/geomorphology.  With over 50 years of combined experience and well over 100 coastal construction projects under our belt, we pride ourselves in providing personalized service to the dredging, coastal, and beach communities.  TI Coastal has been an intregal part of our beach nourishmment projects and continuew to provide updated survey maps or our inlet and sound.
