Retired from the position of Principal of the Weaver Education Center in the Greensboro/Guilford County School System, having taught thirty four (34) years (National Distinguished Principal – 1986).

Before retiring, he worked in public service related occupations, including:
• Emergency Medical Services
• Chairperson of the Greensboro Red Cross Chapter Board of Directors
• Member of the National Disaster Response Team of the National Red Cross
• Division Captain of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary

Since Retiring, he has been involved in our community through the fallowing activities:
• Mayor – Town of Topsail Beach 2007-present
• Commissioner for the Town of Topsail Beach – 2001-2005, during which time served as Mayor Pro-Tem and Interim Manager
• Member of National Red Cross Disaster Team
• Early Assessment Committee for hurricane re-entry
• Adjustment Committee and Communications Committee for the Town of Topsail Beach
• Member of the Topsail Island Beach Re-nourishment committee – 2001 – present
• Co-Chairman of Autumn with Topsail Arts and Entertainment Festival (current committee chairman for children’s rides)
• Active involvement for Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel: Board of Governors, Chancel Choir, Hand-Bells, and various committees
• Member, Topsail Island Kiwanis Club (former Board Member)
• Member, Topsail Island Historical and Cultural Arts Center
• Member, Topsail Island Historical Society
• Assisting with the supervision of the island turtle nesting program

“Topsail Island has been a part of my life for the past fifty (50) years. In 1963, I married Pat Mallard, of Wallace and Topsail Beach. Her family has been associated with the growth of this community since 1949. It has always been our goal to retire here, as we did in 1997”
